"Microsites" - Web Design as Viral Marketing

Print E-mail

More and more companies are turning to the internet for new and innovative ways to promote their services and products. Major corporations such as Burger King, Lipton, Nintendo, American Express, Nike, and many more have developed what are now called microsites for specific promotions. Why make your potential customers visit only your main company website to hunt for a special promotion? The more choices offered to a potential customer, the less likely they are to respond at all. And with television advertising rapidly loosing its power over the average household (most people skip through commercials after they've Tivo'd their favorite shows or race for the "mute" button on live t.v.). However, the microsite, when done properly, teases the consumer to have a look. The job of your design team is to then reel in that consumer with a unique, creative, or otherwise engaging web experience. It might be purely visual, it might be fully interactive (for example, on online game), but it must grab the very short attention span of the viewer as well as get them excited about the product or service. So where does the viral marketing part come in? When your microsite is interactive and engaging, your potential customers are likely to tell their friends about it - especially if your target markets are the coveted 14-25 year olds. With all this fun and interactive design, there is a price. This type of design is normally costly, but the benefits can far outweigh the price tag. Even smaller companies can stand out from their competitors by launching a microsite along with one of their regular promotions. And at JV Media Design, we do our best to work within each client's specific budget.
